This poster on DePaul bulletin board downtown, asks passersby to share a quote or passage that has provided insight and meaning in their lives. There are several contributions already. But if anyone had trouble remembering the exact quote or passage that had inspired them. Well, you guessed it, there is an app for that !
"The Yale Book of Quotations app brings together a collection of over 13,000 quotes and proverbs from Yale University Press’s award-winning title The Yale Book of Quotations, edited by Fred R. Shapiro and the companion edition, The Dictionary of Modern Proverbs, compiled by Charles Clay Doyle, Wolfgang Mieder, and Fred R. Shapiro."
Unlike some of the more traditional reference books like Bartlett's Quotations, these books and new I-Pad App, take a decidedly modern, North American take on memorable and quotable passages. The author, Frank R Shapiro is a world-recognized authority on quotations and on reference in general. He is associate librarian and lecturer in legal research at the Yale Law School.
Features of the app include : searching by author or keyword; bookmarking & organizing specific items into personal folders; toggling between quote & proverb entries using cross references; ability to share items via email, Twitter, Facebook & Evernote. Once downloaded, the app provides complete offline use - no internet connection required.
Now available in the Reference section of the iTunes App Store for the purchase price of $9.99 .
