"Don't Want to Practice? Neither Do We!" This was the theme of the Center for Public Interest Law's (CPIL) final lunch panel of the semester on November 10, 2010. CPIL hosted three speakers who have used their law degree to pursue alternative legal careers. The panelists included Michael Roth, executive director, Center for Disability and Elder Law; Michael Bergmann, director of programs, Public Interest Law Initiative; and Katie Aune, associate director of development, DePaul University College of Law.
Each spoke about attaining their law degree, practicing briefly, and then pursuing alternative careers. This related well to many DePaul students who have voiced an interest in alternative legal careers, especially given the difficult legal market.
